The Jamie Cutter Memorial Scholarship

When we look back on the beginning of what we would later come to know as the “Cater” years of Shepherd Football, Jamie Cutter, #80 carried more than his weight. In fact, Jamie would take advantage of his quickness, balance and agility that he learned on the wrestling mat as off-season football training. Beall High School went on to win the 1987 State Championship in Wrestling as a team while Jamie finished second in his weight class at the Maryland State Wrestling Championship. Jamie was recruited later that same year and was part of our first Conference Champion Rams in 1988 under coach Cater. Jamie’s playing career at Shepherd was full of highlights and accolades, outstanding performances, and recognition both on the local and national levels. Jamie went on to earn First Team All-Conference awards and All-American Honorable Mention awards. Jamie’s individual stats are noteworthy as well; Jamie amassed 225 Career Tackles and 24.5 sacks, ranking him in the top ten Rams statistically from his Defensive Tackle position. The mark he left on the field as a somewhat under-sized defensive tackle, was never about him being mismatched, there was never an excuse and we like to say he had a motor that just wouldn’t stop.

Jamie’s family is especially proud of this honor and would like you to know a few things about Jamie that maybe you didn’t know unless you were close. Jamie was an avid Steelers Fan and was never afraid to make that fact well known by all of his football connections. Jamie also loved his Cats! Most importantly, I don’t want to forget the role he played as a son, a brother, and a father. We lost Jamie on March 29, 2022, after a battle he fought long and hard enough to win, but God had better plans. Surviving are his two daughters, Alison and Christina Cutter; parents, Debbie O’Rourke and husband, Mike, and John Cutter and wife, Kathy; brothers, John, and wife, Chris, Jason and wife, Stacy; several nieces, nephews, stepbrothers, stepsisters, aunts, uncles; and two very good friends, Amber and Gladys Merritt and last but not least all his RAM teammates, you will be missed #Once a Ram, Always a Ram!

We all would like to look back on our life’s work and say this about our time here: The time has come for me to leave this life. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge will award me on that day.

From the entire legacy of RAM Football players, we are honored to memorialize Jamie Cutter and begin the 5-year Journey to endow a scholarship in Jamie’s name so that we may continue to raise the level of student-athlete so our beloved Shepherd Rams have the depth and talent to continue to compete on a National Stage each year.
